My scalp and I have never been easy, and yet, how much I love hair! As far back as I can remember, I love massaging heads, caressing them, and doing beautiful hairstyles for them. I have old memories of standing in a line in the schoolyard and admiring the hair of the little girls in front of me… With this irresistible urge to braid them! When I was little, I also massaged my mother's head a lot and spent hours doing my doll's hairstyles! At the time, my source of inspiration was the Olsen sisters, the ultra-trendy twins at the end of the 90s. 😊 They had all sorts of colorful barrettes in their hair, and I thought it was "mega stylish"! Years went by, I massaged my friends at recess, in the evening, did their hair for student galas, weddings... It was always a way to express my creativity, and then in those moments I don't think about anything...
That's for the "Feel Good" part, creative. 😊 As for the less pleasant part, I'm getting there... Dandruff, itching, scalp on red alert, does that ring a bell? I think it really started when I was a student. And especially during my first internships, a lot of stress, I put myself under crazy pressure, I felt like I was playing my future, a real competition against myself! So inevitably, it starts to itch, itch, unbearable... I try to find miracle products, all the shampoos in pharmacies and supermarkets are there: Neutrogena, Ducray, Le Petit Marseillais, Head & Shoulders... And I'm probably forgetting some. At the time, I also suffered from eczema, acne, problems falling asleep, so I think the scalp came last on this list of inconveniences.
In 2013, I arrived in Berlin for 6 months of Erasmus, and to my great happiness, I lived right next to a store DM ! If you don't know, it's a German supermarket that only offers beauty, hygiene, food, cleaning products... And I'm starting to go there every evening, when I come home from school. 😊 I wander around the aisles and find relatively affordable organic/natural shampoos! I'm testing the range in particular Alverde, organic brand from DM.
I'm starting to get more interested in natural, organic products... I'm also trying to find the cause of my ailments. Well aware that I'm too anxious, and that I struggle to manage my emotions, I'm doing my best to continue moving forward as serenely as possible in my twenties. In 2014, I began my professional career in a natural and organic cosmetics laboratory and there, I experimented with their products and many natural techniques.
As time goes by and the itching gets worse, I decide to test it. Colloidal Silver that I transfer into a spray, so that I can apply it directly to the areas in question. And there it is magic, it soothes me instantly, I can do it during the day, at the office, and it does not make my hair greasy 😊 It is a colorless liquid solution composed of silver particles suspended in ultra-pure water. It is mainly used externally, it soothes, purifies, cleans, moisturizes… It can be purchased in organic stores and is easily found on the internet. It has become one of my essential products.
"And there it is magic,
It calms me down instantly"
I also start massaging my scalp every evening, I apply the Hair toning lotion from Weleda, a product that has been around since the dawn of time! It slows down hair loss, stimulates and strengthens the scalp. In addition, the massage activates circulation, it also allows me to focus on the areas that need it, and then I take the opportunity to give myself a moment of relaxation… It has become my evening ritual 😊
Today I use coconut oil mask before my shampoo, it's great for dandruff and itching! Thanks to its fatty acids, it deeply nourishes the scalp. I sometimes leave it on for several days in times of crisis and tie my hair up. I try to space out shampoos as much as possible, every 5 days or so I would say, once a week would be the ultimate goal! The oil I apply to the scalp is the same as the one I use in cooking, organic quality.
As a less fatty alternative, there is also Aloe vera gel combined with tea tree essential oil, perfect for dandruff. Aloe vera gel moisturizes and soothes, while tea tree helps purify the scalp. It's a combination that I like, practical and effective, that I renew as much as necessary.
And then I also started taking Magnesium, which also soothed me enormously. NO MORE itching!! Magnesium is involved in more than 300 metabolic reactions in the body, it is essential for us! It exists in different forms, I recommend magnesium bisglycinate, one of the most assimilable forms. You can find it at Vit'all+, or even at Solgar (Organic store) and certainly many others.
As a shampoo, I use the rhassoul, natural clay rich in magnesium and lithium that comes from the Middle Atlas in central Morocco. I buy it in an organic store, and I dilute it in an empty shampoo bottle with water. It's a little cold in the shower, but my scalp thanks me. I have much less dandruff after shampooing than with a classic anti-dandruff shampoo (liquid or solid). For long and thick hair, you should plan to put it only at the roots, otherwise it can quickly become tedious.
I insist a lot on the massage, but it is the key to a healthy scalp and hair! Just like using natural and organic products. Let's not forget that hair is alive and that it also absorbs everything we apply to it. So let's space out shampoos, get into the habit of massaging our scalp regularly and thank it for giving us such beautiful hair! And of course, let's take care of our interior, meditation, breathing, stay zen 🙂
And of course, all products are to be preferred organic quality for the respect of your health and the planet 🙂 All the products mentioned can be found in organic stores.
